Stuart Scott was a game changer. A veteran anchor on ESPN, Stuart died Sunday, January 4, 2015 after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was 49.
In 2014, he won ESPN’s prized ESPY Jimmy V Perseverance Award for the encouragement and motivation to others fighting the disease; that speech is below.
Stuart worked for ESPN for 21 years, and is credited with coining catchphrases like “Boo-yah” and “as cool as the other side of the pillow.”
That night, in accepting the Jimmy V Award, he offered another message, these on life, “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live. So live, live. Fight like hell.”
And in concluding, he made it clear what his priorities were.
“The best thing I have ever done, the best thing I will ever do, is be a dad to Taelor and Sydni” (his daughters).
